Success is often measured by profits, productivity, and the bottom line. But what if we approached business from a more holistic perspective—one that integrates the values of spirituality and consciousness?
This is a question I’ve personally wrestled with as I’ve sought to not only thrive financially but also to find deeper fulfillment in my work over the years of running Virtuwell Balance. I've always looked for ways to bring yoga "off the mat" and into my life, but somewhat struggled to apply the same principals to business - until I found Deepak's 7 Laws of Spiritual Success.
The little book, The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success by Deepak Chopra, offers a unique framework for achieving personal success while maintaining spiritual integrity. Although originally written as a guide to personal fulfillment, I found that its teachings can easily be applied to business.
In fact, Deepak’s approach emphasizes that true success is rooted in aligning with universal laws—principles that have helped me foster a more compassionate, meaningful, and sustainable way of doing business.
In this post, I want to share how each of Deepak's 7 laws of spiritual success have shaped my perspective and approach to business, offering a fresh perspective on what it means to succeed.
1) The Law of Pure Potentiality: The Power of Self-Awareness
The Law of Pure Potentiality is the idea that our true essence is pure consciousness. This law emphasizes the infinite possibilities available to us when we tap into our inner stillness and awareness. By quieting the mind and connecting with our deeper self, we can access the great potential that exists within us. When we embrace this, we begin to realize that we are more than just our external circumstances and achievements—we are limitless beings capable of creating from a place of inner peace and clarity.
How I apply this in business: I now create space in my day (most days!) for silence and meditation, allowing my intuition to be more involved with making important business decisions. I've began to notice that the more I'm in tune with myself, new opportunities present themselves effortlessly and it's become easier to access creativity and wisdom.
2) The Law of Giving and Receiving: The Value of Exchange
The Law of Giving and Receiving emphasizes that life is a dynamic flow of energy, and to keep this flow going, we must both give and receive freely. Deepak explains that the universe operates through harmonious exchange—whether it’s in the form of material goods, care, love, or thoughts/energy. When we give with a sense of abundance and without expecting something in return, we create a cycle of generosity that enhances both the giver and the receiver. The more we give, the more we open ourselves to receiving, maintaining the flow of energy and abundance in our lives.
How I apply this in business: I always try to focus on the value we are delivering, not just on what we stand to gain. I’ve started to ask myself how I can give back to my community or clients, whether through educational content (like our blog and The Mindful Marketer newsletter) or simply going above and beyond in our services. We genuinely care about our clients and continue to follow up and keep in touch with them, even when we know there might not be a need to purchase from us again.
3) The Law of Karma: Ethical Decision-Making
The Law of Karma, or cause and effect, teaches that every action we take creates an outcome. Every choice we make influences not only our own lives but also the lives of others and the environment around us. According to this law, the energy we put into the world comes back to us—whether it’s positive or negative. Understanding this principle encourages us to make conscious decisions, recognizing that we are constantly shaping our future through our actions in the present moment.
How I apply this in business: I now prioritize making decisions that are beneficial to my bottom line while also aligned with my core values. When faced with a tough choice, I take a step back and ask, "Is this action in alignment with my values and the greater good?" This approach has allowed me to build stronger, more ethical relationships with my clients and professional partners.
4) The Law of Least Effort: Aligning with Flow
The Law of Least Effort suggests that nature’s intelligence functions with effortless ease, and we, too, can align with this natural flow. According to Deepak, we can achieve MORE by embracing simplicity and non-resistance, rather than forcing outcomes. This law encourages us to surrender to the present moment, act in harmony with our true nature, and let go of the need to struggle or control.
How I apply this in business: I’ve started focusing on the aspects of my business that feel most natural and enjoyable, rather than forcing strategies that drain my energy - this is also something that I love teaching about in The Mindful Marketer newsletters. Whether it's practicing non-violet communication in marketing, honing in on a particular niche or delegating tasks I’m not strong in, the Law of Least Effort has helped me let go of unnecessary resistance and embrace ease.
5) The Law of Intention and Desire: The Power of Vision
The Law of Intention and Desire teaches that intention is a powerful force that can manifest outcomes when combined with attention and detachment. Our desires, when clearly defined and nurtured with pure intention, can create profound results in the material world. Deepak emphasizes that it’s important to remain detached from specific outcomes, trusting that the universe will unfold as it should, while still focusing on what we wish to create.
How I apply this in business: I regularly revisit my intentions and ensure they align with both my vision and my values. Whether I’m launching a new service, creating a new partnership, or building a marketing campaign, I infuse my actions with purpose, knowing that my long-term success is tied to this alignment.
6) The Law of Detachment: Letting Go of Control
The Law of Detachment encourages us to let go of our attachment to specific results. By detaching, we open ourselves to infinite possibilities and allow the universe to manifest outcomes that may be better than what we had initially envisioned. This law teaches that uncertainty is a key component of success, and being comfortable with it allows us to evolve and grow in ways we might not expect.
How I apply this in business: I now embrace new ideas and approaches without getting stuck on a specific result. This has reduced a lot of stress in my work and has allowed me to adapt more easily when things don’t go as planned. Trusting the process rather than micromanaging every detail has been liberating!
I've actually created a mantra/affirmation for this law that I say to myself before taking action on something that feels out of my comfort zone or when I'm nervous that I might not get the outcome I'm hoping for:
→ I reward myself for the action taken not the results received.
7) The Law of Dharma: Purpose and Service
The Law of Dharma emphasizes that every person has a unique purpose in life, and by following that purpose, we can fulfill our potential and contribute meaningfully to the world. Deepak explains that living in alignment with our true purpose allows us to tap into our unique talents and serve others. This law encourages us to use our skills, passions, and values in ways that benefit both ourselves and the collective good.
How I apply this in business: I now regularly reflect on how my business serves the greater good and how it allows me to use my unique talents (and the talents of my amazing team). Operating with a sense of mission has attracted more loyal customers and engaged team members who resonate with my purpose.
Conclusion: Bringing Spirituality Into Business
So, can you blend business with spirituality? I say absolutely!
For me, applying these spiritual principles has led to a more meaningful, sustainable, and fulfilling business.
Deepak's 7 Laws of Spiritual Success offers a powerful blueprint for creating a business that not only thrives financially but also aligns with your values and contributes to the greater good.
By integrating these spiritual laws into my business practices, I’ve been able to cultivate a venture that enriches not only my life, but also the lives of my clients and my team. Ultimately, success isn’t just about profit—it’s about living in harmony with the universe and serving in a way feels good to you.
